s te r), th e s e a t b elt o ffers th e
b est co n dition s fo r p ro te c tio n of
th e body in ca se of se ve re frontal
im p ac t. N ever w e a r th e shoulder
b elt under your arm or o th e rw is e
o ut of p ositio n. P osition th e lap
b elt as low as p ossible around
th e hips (n o t th e w aist).

restrained in th e rear seatin g
p ositions th an in th e fro n t s e a t
ing p ositions.

Infants and sm all children should
be s e a te d in an infant o r child
re strain t system , which is p ro p
erly secu red by a lap b e lt o r lap
b elt portio n of a lap -sh ou lder
b elt. Children could be en d an
g ered in an a c cid en t if th e ir child
restrain ts are not p roperly
secured in th e vehicle.

Children to o big fo r child re
s train t system s should ride in
rear s e a ts using regu lar se at
b elts. A sh oulder b elt can be
used, providing it does not cross
th e fa c e or neck of a child.

Each s e a t b elt should not be
used fo r m ore than one person at
a tim e.

B elts should not be worn
tw isted .

P regn ant w om en should s e le c t a
s e a t w ith a lap -sh ou lder b elt
w henever p ossible. The lap b elt
should be p ositio ned as low as
p ossible around th e hips, to
avoid any p ossible pressure on
th e abdom en.
