S ta rtin g and S h iftin g Gears

The autom atic transm ission facilitates
and sim plifies the handling of the
vehicle. The individual gears are
shifted autom atically dependent upon
se le cto r lever position, vehicle speed
and accelerator position.

Hint

W hen parking the vehicle o r if w orking

on the vehicle with the engine

running, depress parking brake pedal

and move selector lever to position

“ P” .

Do not store any o b je c ts in the

d rive r’s footw ell area because they
could becom e lodged under the

op e ra to r’s pedals thus rendering

these controls partially o r totally

inoperative.

Starting

S hift selector lever to the desired

driving position only when the engine
is  idling and the service brake is
applied.  Do not release the brake
before moving off. The vehicle may
otherw ise start creeping when the
selector lever is in a driving  position.

Test the service brake shortly after

driving off.

Warm up the engine sm oothly. Do not
place full load on the engine until the
operating tem perature has been
reached.

A ccelerator position

Partial th ro ttle = early upshifting =

normal acceleration.

Full th ro ttle = retarded upshifting =

maximum acceleration.

Depressing the accelerator beyond

full th ro ttle to kickdow n position

means dow nshifting to the next lower

gear and thus maximum acceleration.

If you ease up on the accelerator after
having attained the desired speed,

the transm ission will sh ift up again.

Gear shifting is controlled by the

vehicle speed.
