Parking Brake Starting and Turning off the Engine
>
Depress parking brake pedal. When
the key is in position “ 2 ” o f the
steering lock, the brake warning lamp
in the instrum ent clu ste r com es on.
To release the parking brake, pull
handle on instrum ent panel. The
parking brake is released instanta­
neously. The brake warning lamp in
the instrum ent cluster m ust go out.
Engage parking brake before starting
th e engine.
Place the gear se le cto r lever in either
“ N ” o r “ P” position.
Cold Engine
Turn key in steering lock to position
“ 2 ” . Charge indicator and preglow
indicator lamps m ust com e on. The
preglow process starts.
W hen the preglowing indicator goes
out, the engine is ready fo r starting.
A m b ie n t Tem perature exceeding
0° C / + 32° F:
T urn key in steering lock clockw ise to
th e stop. As long as the key is held
against the stop the sta rte r remains
engaged. Release key only when the
engine fires regularly and runs
sm oothly.
A m b ie n t Temperature below 0° C/
+ 32° F:
D epress accelerator com pletely. Turn
key in steering lock clockw ise to the
sto p . As long as the key is held
against the stop the starter remains
engaged. Release key only when the
engine fires regularly and runs
sm oothly. Then release the accelera­
to r slowly.
Do not interrupt the starting process.
If the engine is very cold, it is possible
that it will fail to start on subsequent
attem pts.
A t am bient tem peratures of less than
- 1 8 ° C /0° F, depress accelerator
th re e tim es prior to starting.
