4.4 recoil
Recoil is a sudden reaction to a jammed, hooked
or blocked accessory, e.g. the abrasive or driving
disc. The rotation of the accessory is blocked and
comes to a sudden standstill. This causes the
electric power tool to respond with increased
speed against the rotational direction of the
accessory at the location of the blockage. For
example, when a sanding disc hooks or jams
on the workpiece, the edge of the sanding disc,
which dips into the workpiece, may get caught
and break out the sanding disc, tear off or react
in a recoil. Depending on the rotational direction
of the sanding disc at the jamming point, it can
be ejected toward or away from the machine
operator. The sanding discs may also break at the
jamming point.
A recoil is the result of improper or incorrect use
of the machine, incorrect work practices and/or
unfavourable operating conditions. The following
safety measures minimise the risk of recoil:
• Hold the machine securely with both hands and
place your arms and body in such a way as to have
maximised control over recoil forces and reaction
momentum.
• Keep your hands away from rotating accessory
parts at all times, as they may recoil back across
your hand.
• Stay clear of the area of movement of the electric
power tool in case of a recoil and prevent other
from entering that area, as the device will be
accelerated against the rotational direction of
the abrasive at the jamming point when a recoil
occurs.
• Take extra care when working in corners and
along sharp edges, etc. Prevent the electric power
tool from rebounding or jamming in these areas.
The result would be loss of control and recoi

caution! The mains plug must be disconnected
from the mains socket and must not be
plugged into the mains socket for all works
described in the following!
a. Remove the tool body (D) and the separate
auxiliary tube (E) from the packaging (1a. – see
page *4*).
b. Insert the auxiliary tube into the tool body to
the stop. Take note of the flattened, oval shape of
the tube (2a. – see page *4*). Tighten the locking
nut (C) (3a. and 4a. – see page *5*).
c. Attach the additional handle (F) as required
on one of the machine tubes (5a. and 6a. – see
page *5*). Use the clip adapter provided on the
auxiliary pipe.
d. Attach a suitable abrasive centrically on the
velcro backing pad of the tool (1b.–3b. – see page
*6*).
caution!
The
extraction openings
of the
abrasive
must be placed directly over the
openings in the velcro backing pad to
minimise
dust production
during operation (2b).
e. The tool does not come with an integrated
dust extraction unit. Attach an industrial vacuum
cleaner to the tool using a click or plug-in system.
Follow the illustrations on page *7* (1c. and 2c.)
to connect the industrial vacuum cleaner via the
MENZER system. Please follow the instructions
on the following two pages *8* and *9* (1d.–3d.
for the attachment of the adapter; 1e.–3e. for
the attachment/removal of an industrial vacuum
cleaner to/from the adapter) for machines
requiring an intermediary fitting of a MENZER
universal adapter for vacuum hose systems with
hose diameters Ø27-50 mm. Ensure that a dust
bag suitable for fine dust collection is in place
inside the industrial vacuum cleaner.
f. Ensure that the On/Off switch is in position 0
(see page *3*) before connecting the power cable
to mains supply.
• Ensure good ventilation of your workplace at all
times to prevent fainting and acute intoxication or
accidents due to the formation of toxic vapours.
Read the data sheets provided by the material
manufacturers. Wear appropriate PPE.
• The instructions regarding PPE apply for all
persons within the work area in addition to the
machine operator.
• The sanding of extremely hazardous materials
(e.g. paints with lead content and asbestos) is
highly toxic and should therefore be avoided or
only carried out by specialists wearing appropriate
PPE.
• Ensure that your workplace is clean and well-lit at
all times to prevent accidents.
• When working with electric power tools
outdoors, only use extension cables suitable for
outdoor use.
