If the engine is to remain idle for an extended period of time, it
is necessary to take protective measures to prevent rust
formation. The preservative measures described here will
protect the engine for up to 6 months. The procedure will have
to be reversed before the engine is recommissioned.
Recommended cleansing agent to remove preservatives
when recommissioning engine:
- Petroleum benzine (hazardous materials class A3)
Anti-corrosion oils to specification:
- MIL-L-21260B
- TL 9150-037/2
- Nato Code C 640 / 642
If necessary, clean oil bath cleaner, see 6.4.3, and fill with
anti-corrosion oil.
Run engine until warm, then turn off.
Drain engine oil, see 6.1.2 and fill with anti-corrosion oil.
Clean engine (with cold cleansing agent if preferred) using
high pressure equipment.
Make up a mixture of 90% diesel fuel and 10% anti-corrosion
oil, and refill fuel tank.
Drain fuel from tank.

8.1.2 Removing Engine Preservatives
Spray grooves on V-belts pulleys with anti-corrosion spray.
Turn engine off.
Turn engine over manually several times to preserve the
cylinders and combustion chamber. When rotating with
starter, place shut-off lever in stop position.
Run engine for about 10 minutes.
Remove plugs from intake port and exhaust port.
Remove V-belts and store dry in wrapped condition.
Install V-belts. Retension after brief operation if necessary,
see 6.5
Set the engine in operation.
Remove anti-corrosion agent from grooves in V-belt pulleys.
