Check and Clean Temperature
Sensor Contact Shoes
Required Tools
Soft cloth
Vacuum cleaner or compressed air
Perform only when the unit is OFF
with power disconnected and COOL.
Two spring-loaded temperature contact shoes,
located under the feed ribbons (Figure 4-1), are
used to sense and transmit the ironing cylinder
temperature.
The one at the center relays information to the
temperature control; the one toward the left end of
the cylinder relays information to the high limit
temperature control.
Cleanliness of the contact shoes and firm
pressure on the cylinder are necessary for proper
operation of the ironing section.
Gently blow or wipe off line and other
contaminants. Check that each shoe contacts
the cylinder surface fully and firmly. If contact
shoes are worn down, they must be replaced
immediately.

Check Guide Tapes
Perform only when the unit is OFF
with power disconnected and COOL.
Guide tapes are used to prevent flatwork from
sticking to the compression roll.
1. Turn power OFF at the main disconnect
switch.
2. Inspect for broken or missing guide tapes
and for wear or fraying of the edges.
3. Make sure the ends of the guide tapes are
properly stapled together.
4. Replace any guide tapes that are damaged,
broken, or missing. For more information,
refer to Guide Tape Replacement on
page 7-10 .
