OPERATING YOUR VEHICLE

Cold and warm engine

With your foot off the accelerator pedal,

crank the engine by turning the ignition key

to “START”. Release the key when the

engine starts.

If the engine does not start after 15 sec-

onds of cranking, wait about 15 seconds,

and again crank. If the engine does not

start again wait for 15 seconds after every

attempt to crank. In case of failure of start-

ing please consult Maruti Suzuki autho-

rised workshop.

USING THE TRANSMISSION

Starting off

To start off, push in the clutch pedal and

change into 1st gear. After releasing the

parking brake, gradually release the clutch.

When you hear a change in the engine’s

sound, slowly press the accelerator while

continuing to gradually release the clutch.

Gear changing

All forward gears are synchronized, which

provides for quiet, easy changing. Always

push in the clutch pedal fully before chang-

ing gears.

Downshifting maximum allowable

speeds

NOTE:

You may not accelerate to the maximum

allowable speed because of the driving sit-

uation and/or the vehicle condition.

NOTE:

If it is difficult to engage reverse gear [R},

follow below procedure.

1. Put gear lever in neutral [N].

2. Release clutch pedal once.
Again depress the clutch pedal and shift
from [N] to [R].

CAUTION

When downshifting to a lower gear,

make sure not to downshift at the

speed faster than the maximum

allowable speeds for the next lower

speed, or severe engine damage can

result.

WARNING

• Reduce your speed and change

down to a lower gear before going

down a long or steep hill. A lower

gear will allow the engine to pro-

vide braking. Avoid riding the

brakes or they may overheat,

resulting in brake failure.

• When driving on slippery roads, be

sure to slow down before changing

down. Excessive and or sudden

changes in engine speed may

cause loss of traction, which could

cause you to lose control.

• Make sure that the vehicle is com-

pletely stationary before you

change into reverse.

NOTICE

Before engaging reverse gear [R],

check that the vehicle is completely

stationary and gear lever is in neutral

[N] position. After depressing clutch

pedal fully, shift to [R].
