Swim Board, Ladder, and Flip Step
The swim board provides additional enjoyment of the Malibu ex-
perience. While the swim board, along with the optional flip-down
step, can ease movement in and out of the water, Malibu reminds us-
ers to exercise caution. When jumping off the boat, always be certain
that there is sufficient depth. Appearances can be deceptive, espe-
cially in clear water. When using the ladders, use the steps with care
to avoid slipping or falling. Although the swim board is constructed
with anti-skid properties, it is still the responsibility of users to use
care when walking on it, using it to get on, using it to get into the
cockpit, standing or sitting on the swim board.
As noted, multiple times throughout this manual, never allow
anyone to be on the swim board when the engine is running due to
exhaust fumes.
Be certain the optional flip step is properly stowed before oper-
ating the boat. The flip step should be down (and usable) only when
the boat is anchored or stationary. To use the flip step, pull the lever
beneath the starboard side of the stepdown to release the step. Take
care not to pinch fingers in the apparatus when opening or clos-
ing. Additional information regarding the routine maintenance of the
swim board is available in the
Care and Maintenance section of this
manual.
Models: All Malibu boats are equipped with a swim board. Bow
ladders are optional on M240 models. The flip step is an option on all
Malibu boats.
Never allow anyone to be on the swim
board or flip-step when the engine is
running, even at idle. Exhaust fumes can
quickly overcome individuals, leading to serious injury or death. More
information is available in the
Safety
section of this manual.
Care should always be taken when entering
or exiting the boat. The flip step on the
swim board is the recommended egress
when the boat is launched in water, and they should be used ONLY
when the boat is stopped, and the engine is OFF. Even in instances
when the boat is idling out-of-gear, an accidental engagement of the
throttle into gear could result in serious injury or death to anyone enter
-
ing or exiting the boat if the individual comes into contact with any of
the underwater gear. Using the gunnels for egress is highly discouraged
under any circumstances.
Exercise care when deploying the swim
step. Under no circumstances should
anyone be standing, sitting, or laying on
the step while it is in operation. In addition to possibly damaging
equipment, persons on the flip step are subject to serious injury from
pinching or falling. Prior to operating the flip step, the user needs to
confirm that everyone’s hands or feet are clear of the step’s mechanical
components.
Use care when accessing the flip step to
avoid pinching yourself or someone else in
the apparatus or falling on the step, which
could result in injury.
The flip step must be in the stowed position
whenever the boat is underway.
How It Works—111
Powered Swim Step
The Powered Swim Step is the latest innovation brought to you by
Malibu Boats. With a touch of a button located on the boat’s transom,
users can deploy the powered swim step to allow ease of movement
into and out of the water.
Operation
To deploy the powered swim step, press and hold the Down button
located on the boat’s transom.
To store the step, press and hold the Up button. The swim step is
only operational while the Up or Down button is being depressed. For
added safety, the powered swim step can be locked out at the helm
breaker panel.
When the button is fully depressed, the power swim step is opera-
tional. When the button is released then the power step is locked out.
However, the power step can still be deployed manually (see In Case of
Emergency below) while in locked out mode. When transporting your
boat, the powered swim step should be in the stowed position.
Care and Maintenance
Along with the routine care and maintenance outlined in the Care
& Maintenance section of this manual, Malibu recommends that an-
ti-seize grease be applied to the gears of the powered swim step
annually.
In Case of Emergency
If you experience a loss of power to your boat or failure of the
powered swim step actuator, the powered swim step can still be de-
ployed or stowed manually.
To deploy the swim step, remove the wire locking clevis pin from
behind the actuator (Fig. 1 following), deploy the swim step by push-
ing or pulling it into place (being careful not to pinch your fingers
in the moving parts), and place the clevis pin in the hole located on
