Start engine

-  Pull out the choke lever (

B/5

) as far as it goes.

Hold the brushcutter frimly down with one hand, as illustrated
above.

Pull the starter handle out slowly until resistance is noticed,
then pull the starter handle out fully with a quick and forceful
movement.

-  Do not pull out the whole starter cable to its full extent and

do not let the starter handle jump back, but let it slowly
automatically rewind itself.

Repeat starting procedure until ignition is achieved.

Push the choke lever (B/5) back in again and pull the
starter cable again until the engine starts.

-  After the engine has started, press the throttle (

A/3

) all the

way in and release immediately. This will disengage the
half-throttle position.

-  Run the engine for approximately 1 minute at a moderate

speed before commencing work.

Warm start

Similar to a cold start but without the choke.

Turning off the engine

Move switch (

A/1

) to the position          .

Adjusting idling speed

CAUTION: The carburetor must be
adjusted only at an authorized MAKITA
service centre.

Before adjusting the idling speed, the brushcutter should be
run for 3 to 5 minutes until it is warm.

Turning the idle jet screw (

S, C/6

) inwards (in a clockwise

direction) will increase the speed of the engine, while turning
it outwards (in a counter-clockwise direction) will decrease the
engine speed.

The cutting tool must not turn when the engine is idling! If the
cutting tool continues to run when the engine is running at idling
speed, consult a service centre.

Cold start

-  Move the switch (

A/1

) in the direction of the arrow.

-  To set the half-throttle catch, press the throttle (

A/3

) with

the throttle trigger lockout (

A/2

) pressed and then press the

catch (

A/4

). Release the throttle (

A/3

) and then the throttle

trigger lockout (

A/2

).

Pay attention to all applicable accident prevention regula-
tions and precautions!

The brushcutter must be completely assembled before
starting!

Starting the engine

-  Move at least 3 meters (3 1/2 yards) away from where you

Þ

 lled the fuel tank.

-  Make sure you have a good footing, and lay the brushcut-

ter on the ground in such a way that the cutting tool is not
touching the ground or anything else.
