Reusing Content with Templates and Libraries
387
For documents based on templates, if syntax coloring is enabled, locked regions
are highlighted in the code editors. (For information about enabling syntax
coloring, see “Setting Code view (or Code inspector) options” on page 333.) You
can make changes only to the editable (nonhighlighted) HTML source code.
Note:
Dreamweaver does not prevent you from typing in locked regions in the Code
inspector or the Code view of the Document window. However, Dreamweaver discards all
changes you make to locked regions, so be careful to type only in editable regions.
Locking an editable region
If you’ve marked a region of your template file as editable and you want to lock it
(make it noneditable) again, use the Remove Editable Region command.
Note:
You can’t lock a region in a file based on a template; you can lock a region only in a
template file.
To lock a region (make it noneditable) in a template file:
1
Choose Modify > Templates > Remove Editable Region.
2
Select the region name from the list and click OK.
The region is locked. It no longer has a name (since only editable regions
are named).
