10-Hour Initial Engine Inspection for IO-390-D Series Engines
A.
Complete this inspection after the first 10 hours of initial operation of a new, rebuilt, or
overhauled engine.
B.
Copy and complete the 10-Hour Initial Engine Inspection Checklist for IO-390-D Series
engines as a record of engine service. Record the engine hours.
WARNING
BEFORE ANY ENGINE INSPECTION OR SERVICE PROCEDURE,
MAKE SURE THE IGNITION SWITCH IS SET TO OFF AND THAT ALL
POWER TO THE ENGINE IS DISCONNECTED. ENSURE ALL
OBJECTS/PERSONNEL ARE CLEAR OF THE PROPELLER’S
ROTATIONAL ARC. IF POWER IS ON, A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE
CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO START AND THE PROPELLER TO
TURN WHICH CAN LEAD TO DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY OR A
PROPELLER STRIKE.
NOTICE:
Copy the blank checklist and complete this checklist as a record of engine
maintenance. Put the completed checklist in the engine logbook.

NOTICE:
As needed, set fuel controls on new, rebuilt, or overhauled engine to 50 to 100 rpm
higher than usual idle speed (600 to 700 rpm) for the first 25 hours of operation - then
adjust to the usual setting after the first 25 hours of operation.
Complete the Operational
Ground Check in Chapter 72-00.
Look for leaks. Identify
and correct the cause of
any leak. Correct any
problem to make sure the
engine operates correctly to
specifications in Appendix
A of the
IO-390-D Series
Engine Installation and
Operation Manual.
