Product Description
The LION SIL2 I/O modules are specially designed for the use in a LION
application. The modules read and transmit diagnostic and process data like error
or channel/port status. The modules can be connected to a bus coupler or a PLC,
where the data will be processed. It is possible to use the modules for a safe data
transmission.
This manual describes two variants of the SIL2 IO module:
7.1
Charcateristics
7.1.1
Digital Inputs
16 digital inputs with 4 potentials
Protection function against:
▪ Polarity reversal
▪ Overvoltage (surge)
7.1.2
Digital Outputs
8 digital outputs with 8 potentials
▪ The outputs are potential free switches, they have no ground connection.
▪ The outputs have one channel per potential group.
The load voltage for the outputs must be feeded per output channel. In case
of a SIL2 architecture, the double switching outputs will form a potential group,
because of the connected load.
Protection function:
▪ Series diode – protection against polarity reversal and energetic recovery
The function and the operation of both variants is the same, only the supply
ranges of the inputs is different.
Part-No.

The SIL2 IO modules have a special safety target which provides the secure
capturing, processing and transmitting of the connected digital process signals
on the module and the secure receiving, processing and output of digital output
switching status.
The outputs do only reach SIL2 if the connected actuator has an plus/minus
switching architecture. If its is connected one channel plus switching, only SIL1
is reached.
