4-4 FIELD OP ERA TION
4-4.1 Re move the trans port lock pins from the
cyl in der lock outs. Use them to hook the lock -
outs to the lock out an chor chains. Lower the
Disc Chisel un til the points run at the de sired
depth.
4-4.2 Check the front- to- rear lev el ing of the
frame. Level the ma chine by ad just ing the
hitch ra dius rod Set the frame level at its
work ing depth.
4-4.3 Set the depth by chang ing the stroke
con trol blocks on the gauge wheel cyl in ders.
For sta
bil ity, it is im por tant that the gauge
wheels al ways ap ply slight pres sure against
the soil.
4-4.4 Al ways lift the Disc Chisel com pletely
out of the ground be fore turn ing or back ing.
This pre vents shank or disc dam age or dam -
age to their re spec tive mount ing brack ets.
4-4.5 Re duce speed at field ends, and lift the
Disc Chisel com pletely out of the ground be -
fore turn ing.
4-4.6 Af ter a few hours of op era tion, check all
bolts for tight ness, es pe cially the shank u-
bolts and pivot bolts. Tighten wheel lug bolts
to 90 ft- lbs of torque. Tighten any loose bolts
to the torques shown in
Ta ble 2-1.
4-4.7 Disc Gang Op era tion. The disc gangs
may be set at an an gle of 10, 15, or 20 De -
grees. The an gle is ad justed by re mov ing the
disc an gle ad just pins and mov ing the outer
end of the disc gangs to the an
gle de sired.

a. Lower the ma chine un til the shanks are at
the de sired work ing depth.
IMPORTANT
USE THE DEPTH GAUGE (SEE FIG URE 4-2)
FOR RELA TIVE DEPTH OF DISCS. IT DOES
NOT IN DI CATE AC TUAL DEPTH OF DISCS.
b. Po si tion the discs at de sired depth by ex -
tend ing or re tract ing the disc ad just hy drau lic
cyl in der(s).
c. The front discs can be set deeper then the
rear discs by short en ing the front discs ad just
ra dius rods.
CAU TION
TO PRE VENT DAM AGE TO YOUR
MA CHINE, DO NOT CHANGE THE
REAR RA DIUS ROD TO RAISE THE
REAR DISCS.
4-4.9 Check disc scrap ers for proper set ting.
(See Sec tion 4-2 to ad just).
CAU TION
TIGHTEN ALL 1-1/2" NUTS TO 1200
FOOT- POUNDS OF TORQUE.
