Real-time Control of KDFX

Tempo-based control of KDFX

For example, letÕs look at an Algorithm that has an LFO Rate parameter in Hz. LetÕs say we
want the LFO speed to be twice as fast as the tempo. Here are the values for the FXMod:

The Tempo parameter exists in Control Source lists throughout the K2500Õs operating system,
not just in FXMod pages, so you can use it for controlling just about any function, including
pitches of sample loops, envelope lengths, Þlters, volume, and more.

Tap Tempo

A real-time tap on a footswitch or button can also be used to control the tempo of a parameter
in KDFX. Like the Tempo parameter, Tap Tempo is not KDFX-speciÞc, but can be used
throughout the K2500Õs operating system, including the Sequencer.

To use Tap Tempo, you have to assign it a physical controller inside a Setup or Control Setup (if
you are in Program mode). ÒTap TempoÓ is on the controller Destinations list, located at
number 39 (press

information, based on the average time between taps, to the Internal Clock.

It takes four taps to determine the tempoÑif you tap fewer than four times, no information is
sent. If you tap more than four times, the average of

all

of your taps is continuously calculated

and sent to the Clock. Later taps are weighted more heavily than earlier ones, so that if you
change the rate at which you tap, the tempo information being sent will change accordingly,
but there is a ÒßywheelÓ effect, so the ClockÕs tempo changes will lag somewhat behind the
changes in your tapping rate.

In order for Tap Tempo to have any effect, the
