6.2 The canopy
The Green b’s canopy is made of the newest, high strength and specially coated Por-
cher Marine fabric. With proper care (see chapter Care and Maintenance) the Green b
has proven to be exceptionally water resistant and airtight. This means you can enjoy the
safety and residual value of your Green b over a long time.
The top surface is equipped with new hybrid technologies. The first front third is made from
heavy 44 gram 9092 E85A, whilst the other two thirds are made from 40 gram 9017 E77A.
On the one hand this complex mix of materials guarantees maximum quality and durability
and on the other weight is saved through careful use of materials, whilst safety is also
improved. Both fabrics are impregnanted with a water-repellent coating.
The whole of the bottom sail is made of 9017 E68A. This material has a weight of 36g/qm
and is largely repsonsible for the weight that is saved.
Type 9017 E29A (hard finish) diagonally striped Porcher Marine fabric was selected for
the profile ribs in order to ensure maximum profile precision. The Green b’s profile has
been specially designed to suit the requirements of a modern glider. It offers an unusally
high range of setting angles as well as very few pitching or nodding moments.
The cell openings and closings are strengthened with a polyester strap whilst the canopy
openings are strengthened with a polyester fabric in order to optimise flight features when
launching and flying at high speeds. The semi-circular inlet openings and all the closed
cells were selected to guarantee a balanced stress ratio between the top and bottom sails.
The opening of the leading edge, which can impair performance, was also kept as small
as possible.
The stability of the canopy was guaranteed by strengthening the leading edge with nylon
strips around the cell openings.
