guide a biopsy needle (needle) .

• Position of the biopsy target on the image and
actual position of the biopsy needle
Even though the biopsy target and the biopsy
needle are identified on the image, a biopsy may
not always be successful due to dispersion of the
ultrasound beam .
• When performing a biopsy on a small structure fol-
low the instructions below .
– Do not rely solely on the echo of the needle end
on the image . Pay careful attention to the target,
which may shift slightly when the biopsy needle
comes into contact with it .
