Introduction
This chapter describes the steps for connecting your printer to a Macintosh
system, using USB, LPR, or an Ethernet connection. There are three steps
for making the connection.

Install the printer support software

Create the desktop printer (Macintosh OS 9) or the Printer Queue (OS X),
which includes
physically connecting the printer
configuring the Zone Name

Install the system software
See “Update Procedures for Macintosh Operating Systems” on page 26
for instructions on installing the printer’s system software.
Once the printer is connected, you can download additional utilities,
such as ICC Profiles and Pantone tables for use with specialized color
printing.
Some Notes to Consider
In the following sections, we assume that you are installing the software
for the first time.
The current version of Macintosh OS X has limited support for PPD
(PostScript Printer Description) files. Although KONICA MINOLTA printers
can be used with Macintosh OS X, not all advanced printing features are
available. Advanced printing features are still available under Macintosh
OS 9.
You can connect to your printer using
– A USB cable
– A crossover Ethernet cable (when connecting the printer to a
computer directly)
– Ethernet patch cables and an Ethernet hub (when connecting the
printer to multiple computers on a network)
