The possibility of getting air bubbles in front of the transducer
array is the most important factor.
If the vessel hull has a bulbous bow, this may well be a good
transducer array location, but also in this case the flow pattern
of the aerated water must be taken into consideration. Often the
foremost part of the bulb is preferable as shown below.

If a nominal horizontal mounting of the transducer array is
desired, the transducers can be mounted parallel to the keel. Most
ships have a positive design pitch of 0.5 to 2°. Backward tilt is
not recommended, it may limit the operational weather window.
The recommended transducer array location is in the fore part of
the hull, and normally follow the keel line with respect to tilt.
