Determining Cue Distance and Cue Delay
Cue Sensor
The cue sensor detects the substrate as it passes under the print array.
Two cue values, cue distance and cue delay, must be entered in the
system software for printing to occur at the desired position within the
image area. (Figure 1.8 shows an example of one type of cue sensor
used with the printers.)

Cue Distance
Cue distance is the distance from the cue sensor to the print array (Figure
1.9). The minimum cue distance is 1.0 inch (2.54 cm). The maximum cue
distance is dependent on the print resolution in the direction of substrate
movement and is shown in Table 1.1 on page 1-14. To determine cue
distance, slowly move the substrate under the cue sensor until the light on
the cue amplifier goes out. Stop the piece and measure the distance from
leading edge of the piece to the print array.
