Operation and Protection Functions
Protection Function and Warning Function
This product offers a protection function that aborts the ongoing test and shuts off the outputs and a
warning function that provides advance activation notification of the protection function in testing.
An alarm occurs when the protection function is activated during a test. When an alarm occurs in a
channel, the corresponding ALARM/WARNING LED (red) lights up, and the test is aborted.
The warning function (WARNING) detects causes that may result in an alarm while no test is executed.
When a warning is detected in a channel, the corresponding ALARM/WARNING LED (orange) lights up.
You cannot start a test in this condition.
If a charge/discharge test is suddenly aborted due to a power outage or other reason, you may be able to
resume the test. Depending on the condition, restoring the test may not be possible.
For details about the protection function, including setting, handling, and test-restarting procedures, as
well as emergency stop, see the user’s manual for Test Condition Editor in BPC4000 or the manual for
Test Executive.
Alarm occurrence
This product provides software protection and hardware protection.
The software protection provides a protection function through the firmware, while
the hardware protection provides a protection function through the hardware.
You can configure the software protection settings inTest Condition Editor in
BPC4000and the hardware protection settings in Test Executive.
The hardware protection function always protect the DUT from overcharging and
overdischarging even when BPC4000 is executing no test.
If an alarm is received, an error is detected, or a protection function is activated,
the ALARM/WARNING LED lights red or blinks (in red).
CAUTION
• Protection function and warning function are for preventing serious accidents such as
DUT breakage or explosions. Unless otherwise there is a specific reason, enable the
protection function during tests.
• Incorrect settings may cause problems such as DUT damage due to failure to activate the
protection function in the event of an abnormality (in the case of necessity) or interruption
of an ongoing test despite no exception is occurring.
You need to set the protection function properly to protect the DUT. Setting invalid values
may result in an unsuccessful test due to frequent alarms and warnings.
