Using the Midnight mode, you
can enjoy a powerful sound at
night even at a low volume level.

Setting the Midnight mode:
Select one of the following:

: Select this when you want to reduce the dynamic range a
little. The MIDNIGHT MODE indicator lights up on the
display.

: Select this when you want to apply the compress effect
fully (useful at midnight). The MIDNIGHT MODE
indicator lights up on the display.
OFF : Select this when you want to enjoy surround with its full
dynamic range (no effect applied). The MIDNIGHT
MODE indicator goes off from the display.
Notes:
• This function is applied only to the main room sources.
• If Line Direct is in use, Midnight mode is temporarily canceled.
• Midnight mode is not valid for the THX Surround modes and
DVD MULTI playback mode.

preset when and how to apply
the THX Surround EX to
playback software when you
press THX ON/OFF button. (See
page 48.)

Setting THX Surround EX:
Select one of the following:
AUTO : This unit automatically selects either “THX SURR
EX” or “THX CINEMA” according to the playback
software when you press THX ON/OFF.
• “THX SURR EX” is selected for software encoded
with Dolby Digital EX (only if the Dolby Digital EX
identification mark is recorded on the disc).
• “THX CINEMA” is selected except for the above
case.
ON
: This unit automatically selects either “THX SURR
EX” or “THX CINEMA” according to the playback
software when you press THX ON/OFF.
• “THX SURR EX” is selected for mulitchannel
digital software.
• “THX CINEMA” is selected except for the above
case.
OFF
: When you press THX ON/OFF, “THX CINEMA” is
always selected for any software.
Note:
When “SURR BK SP” is set to “NONE” on the SPEAKER
SETTING submenu, this submenu is not available.
Setting the Surround Sound Output

On this submenu screen, you can
preset which surround speakers
to use to output the surround
sounds (except for the THX
Surround EX, DAP modes, and
DVD MULTI playback mode).

Setting the surround speakers to use
Select one of the following:
L/R
: Select this to use only the left and right
surround speakers.
BACK
: Select this to use only the surround back
speakers.
L/R+BACK
: Select this to use both the surround speakers
and surround back speakers.
Note:
When “SURR BACK SP” is set to “NONE” on the SPEAKER
SETTING menu, this submenu is not available.

Set the component connected to the digital coaxial (DIGITAL
IN 1) terminal.
