When the chiller shipment arrives, notify
the local Johnson Controls Service office
immediately. A complete inspection must
be done in the presence of a Johnson Con-
trols representative to verify any damage
to the unit, and to make sure all compo-
nents and ship loose parts have arrived.
To ensure a smooth chiller installation, please check
all factory submittals and drawings that accompany
the chill er shipment. If these are not available, refer
to the introduction section of this document and or-
der the ap pro pri ate Johnson Controls form. Verify all
unit clear anc es, over all di men sions and weight. Ver i fy
elec tri cal re quire ments, fuel gas or steam pres sure and
chill er foot print for foun da tion di men sions.
The chiller shipment MUST also be checked on arrival
to see that all major pieces, boxes and crates are re-
ceived. The unit should be checked on the trailer or rail
car when re ceived, before unloading, for any visible
signs of dam age.
This inspection must be done in the
presence of a Johnson Controls service representa-
tive.
Any dam age or signs of pos si ble dam age should
be re port ed to the trans por ta tion com pa ny im me di ate-
ly for their in spec tion.
Johnson Controls will not be
re spon si ble for any dam age in ship ment or at the
job site or loss of parts.
When received at the jobsite, all containers should
be opened and contents checked against the packing
list or shipping orders. Any material shortage must be
re port ed to Johnson Controls immediately! (Refer to
Shipping Damage Claims, Form 50.15-NM).

VERIFICATION OF UNIT HOLDING CHARGE
OR VACUUM
When a unit is charged with lithium bromide, a nitro-
gen blanket is ap plied to the unit, which is indicated
on the unit’s pres sure gauge by a black mark. This
pres sure gauge must be inspected when the unit ar-
rives at the jobsite to ensure that no leakage has oc-
curred during ship ment. If the needle on the pressure
gauge is significantly lower than the factory mark,
notify Johnson Controls immediately!
Johnson
Controls will not be liable for any damage done
to any parts of the unit as a result of the loss of
the solution side nitrogen charge after time of in-
spection.
An absorption unit is cus tom arily shipped without any
lithium bromide charged to the unit. A unit without a
lithium bromide charge is in di cat ed by the unit pres-
sure gauge in a deep vacuum. A unit leak check may
be necessary before any unit start-up can com mence.
All unit leak checking must be done by Johnson
Controls Service!
INSTALLATION CHECKLIST
On the next page of this document is an Installation
Check List, which is to be used to ensure that all instal-
lation items have been taken care of.
The local Johnson Controls office must be contacted
at time of chill er ar riv al at jobsite. With the presence
of a Johnson Controls rep re sen ta tive, the chiller and
its shipped loose parts must be in spect ed to ensure all
items arrived and no dam age occurred during ship-
ment.
The inspection of the unit should be per formed by an
in di vid u al who is thoroughly fa mil iar with all as pects
of the chiller and burner (if ap pli ca ble) and how it in-
ter fac es with overall plant op er a tion. When sat is fied
that the unit installation is com plete, call for the ser-
vic es of a Johnson Controls rep re sen ta tive by filling
out the form and sub mit ting to the local Johnson Con-
trols service of fice.
