2.5.2 Serial Data Input/Output
Input Configuration
Inputs can be configured for two-state unsupervised or four-state supervised operation. In addition,
8 inputs (21 - 24, 45 - 48) can be configured to monitor switched voltage inputs. Use the NION-
16C48M plug-in to configure two-state and four-state operation. Set the jumpers on the NION-
16C48M motherboard to configure switched voltage operation. These jumpers are grouped in an
area beneath the terminal boards.
Discrete or Switched Voltage Inputs (21 - 24 and 45 - 48)
Inputs 21 through 24 and 45 through 48 can be configured to operate as discrete, two-state
unsupervised or four-state supervised inputs or, switched voltage (SV) inputs. Each input can be
individually configured for maximum flexibility. To define the function of each of these inputs,

WARNING: NION Power Wiring
Panel power connectors that are used to provide power for a NION must be made to the panel’s
non-resettable connector.
NOTE:
Configure input/output jumper settings before installing terminal boards onto the NION-
16C48M motherboard.
!
WARNING: NION Communication Port Connections
Unless expressly stated otherwise, each serial NION interface requires the exclusive use of any
communication port or terminal to which it connects. The shared use of any communication port or
terminal by a NION and any ancillary device, such as CRTs or printers, may interfere with or
completely negate the function of the NION. Such shared connections are not supported.
NOTE:
Two-state, unsupervised inputs cannot be used for fire applications.
