2.5 NION Power and Serial Data Connections

2.5.1 Power Connection

Figure 2.7 NION-16C48M Power Connector

Outside Canada, this NION can be powered by any regulated, UL 1481 listed, power limited,
battery backed, +24 VDC power supply.

For Canadian installation, the NION must be powered by a ULC listed Fire Alarm Control Unit or
a ULC listed power supply for fire application.

This NION re24 VDC @ 800 mA nominal and battery backup in accordance with local
code requirements.

Connect the power supply’s +24 VDC and GND connections to the NION-16C48M’s TB11 +24
VDC and GND pins respectively.

GND +24VDC

NOTE:

Use only wire for power limited systems

.

Power limited wire runs use type FPLR, FPLP,

FPL or equivalent cabling per NEC 760. Wiring from the NION to the panel or auxiliary power
units must be mounted within 20 feet of the monitored equipment.

WARNING: Managing NION Power

Always remove power from any NION before making any changes to switch settings, when removing
or installing; option modules, SMX network modules and software upgrade chips, or damage may
result.
