It corresponds to neutral for a manual
transmission. The engine can be started
with the lever in position N. Engage N in
the case of prolonged stops with engine
running.
Also engage the electric parking brake.
Drive (D) - Automatic forward gear
Use this position in normal driving
conditions.
The accelerator must be released,
with car at a standstill and brake pedal
pressed to shift from position D to position
P ("Park") or R (Reverse).
This position ensures the automatic
engagement of the most suitable gears
for driving needs and maximum fuel
economy in terms of consumption.
In this position, the transmission shifts
the gears automatically, selecting the
most suitable for forward driving among
those available as you go. In this way, the
optimal driving characteristics of the car
are guaranteed in all the typical conditions
of use.
"AutoStick "- Manual (sequential) shifting
mode
In the case of frequent shifting (e.g. when
the car is driven with a heavy load, on
gradients, with strong headwind or when
towing heavy trailers), it is recommended
to use the "AutoStick (sequential shifting)
mode, which permits the driver to decide
when to shift, to select and keep a lower
fi xed ratio.
In these conditions, using a lower gear
improves car performance and prolongs
the life of the transmission, limiting gear
shifting and preventing overheating.
It is possible to shift from position D
(Drive) to the sequential mode regardless
of car speed.
