Electric chain saw

Cutting Logs
The following safety rules must be followed.
Place the tog (timber), as shown in following
•
figures, and brace it such that the machine does not
get stuck in the cut.
Short offcuts need to be accurately levelled and
•
reliably secured before they are sawn
Saw only wooden material. Avoid contact with
•
stones or dirt, since the saw chain will throw them
sideways and in so doing the saw chain could be
damaged.
Do not touch wire fences or the ground with the
•
working machine.
The machine is not suitable for cutting thin
•
branches and boughs.
Longitudinal cuts should be carried out with
•
great care, since notched rest (8) cannot be used
under these conditions. Guide the machine at a
straight angle. avoiding rebound.
When working at angles, always place yourselves
•
higher than the cut log or to the side thereof or cut
horizontal material.
Pay attention to the threat posed by stumbling
•
blocks, branches and roots, etc.
Cutting Mechanically Stressed Timber
Branches, trees or timber that are mechanically
stressed or lost the pressure after cutting, can
produce absolutely unexpected reactions and cause
serious injury or even death. In such cases particular
attention is required.
Only specialists who have undergone
special training should carry out such
work.
If the tree is supported at both ends (look figure
•
on the left), the first cut should be made at the top
(A) to one-third the thickness of the trunk and then
it should be undercut at the same place (B) whilst
avoiding splits and machine jams. To this end it is
essential that the chain not be allowed to touch the
ground.
If the tree is only attached to the support on
•
one side (look figure on the right), it should first be
notched one-third bottom upwards (A) and then
sawn through at the same height (B). In this way
trunk splitting and machine jams are avoided.
Tree felling
Always wear a hardhat to protect the head from
falling branches.
The machine may only be used to fell tress
•
having a diameter that is less than the length of
guide bar (7).
Fence off the working area.
•
Never attempt to remove the machine that is
•
stuck in a trunk with an electric motor. Use wooden
blocks to free the saw chain.
Note:
•
The direction in which the tree is to
fall should be decided before work begins; it is
important to take the center of gravity of the crown
and the wind direction into account in making this
decision.
Saw a notch (A) in the side of the tree to be felled.
•
The depth of the notch should be approximately
1/3 of the diameter of the trunk. Then continue the
cut from the opposite side to the notch (A) with a
horizontal cut (B), starting approximately 4 cm
higher than previous cut (A).
A
C
B
Under no circumstances should the
trunk be completely sawn through!
Approximately 1/10 of the trunk’s diameter
•
should be left. If the tree starts to fall, remove the
machine immediately from the cut and move out of
the way backwards or to the side.
The working area around the trunk must be free
•
from obstacles: sturdy support and the opportunity
to move out of the way without problem must be
provided for the operator.
Once the saw cut has been finished start felling
•
the tree by driving in wedge (C) into the horizontal
cut (B).
When the tree starts to fall, watch out for falling
•
branches and boughs that have been broken off.
