Disc Notes
The types of discs that can be played in the NVS-7.7 is
dependent on the playback software (i.e., Media Center
and PowerDVD).
Read this section carefully and play discs accordingly.
• Depending on how they were recorded, some discs
may not play properly even if they bear one of the
supported disc logos.
• Do not move or vibrate the NVS-7.7 during play-
back, as it may damage the disc. Do not touch the
disc tray while it’s moving, as it may cause a mal-
function.
• Do not press down on the disc tray, and do not place
anything other than discs on it. Doing so may dam-
age the disc drive.
• Typically a menu appears when movie playback fin-
ishes. If the same menu is displayed for a long time,
it may cause screen burn-in and damage your TV
screen. To prevent this, press the Stop button when
playback finishes.
Supported Discs
The NVS-7.7 supports the following discs for playback.
Discs that are not listed are not supported.
• The NVS-7.7 does not support DVD-VR discs that
use CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable
Media). Do not try to play such discs.
• Some audio CDs feature copy protection that doesn’t
conform to the official CD standard. Since these are
nonstandard discs, they may not play properly in the
NVS-7.7.
• Some CD±R/RW and DVD±R/RW discs may not
work properly for any of the following reasons:
incomplete disc finalization, disc burner characteris-
tics, disc characteristics, the disc is damaged or dirty.
See the manual supplied with your disc burner for
more information. Condensation or dirt on the opti-
cal pickup lens can also affect playback.
• The NVS-7.7 supports 8 cm and 12 cm discs.
• Don’t use discs with an unusual shape, such as those
shown below, as they may damage the NVS-7.7.
• Don’t use discs that have residue from adhesive tape,
rental discs with peeling labels, or discs with cus-
tom-made labels or stickers. Doing so may damage
the NVS-7.7 and you may not be able to remove the
disc properly.
DVD-Video Regions
The DVD-Video standard uses region numbers to con-
trol how discs can be played around the world, the
world being divided into six regions, as shown. The
NVS-7.7 will only play DVD-Video discs that match its
region number, which can be found on the rear panel
(e.g.,
). If you attempt to play a disc intended for
another region, a message saying that the disc cannot be
played appears. Discs marked
ALL
can be played in any
DVD player.

Center may produce noise or a system crash. When
playing DTS CDs, always start PowerDVD before
loading the disc (see page 38).
