Never test the insulation resistance of any part of the machines electrical circuits, including the motor, without completely disconnecting the following:
Primary side of control power transformer
Input power and motor cables from soft starter (if equipped)
Input power and motor cables from the main VSD (if equipped)
Input power and motor cables from the blower VSD (if equipped)
Keep all parts of the body and any hand-held tools or other conductive objects, away from exposed live parts of the compressor electrical system. Maintain
dry footing, stand on insulating surfaces and do not contact any other portion of the compressor when making adjustments or repairs to exposed live
parts of the compressor electrical system. Wear personal protective equipment appropriate to the voltage present while servicing live electrical systems.
Close all access doors securely when the compressor is left unattended.
Routine Inspection
Check the high discharge air temperature shutdown function at regular intervals for proper operation according to the instructions.
Inspect all pressure containing parts for defects regularly according to the instructions., especially flexible hoses and their couplings. These parts must be
regularly inspected, be free from defects and be replaced according to the compressor instructions.
Check all safety valves frequently to verify correct operation.
Repair Parts
Do not use repair parts other than those included within the Ingersoll Rand approved parts list. Using unapproved parts may create hazardous conditions
over which Ingersoll Rand has no control. Therefore, Ingersoll Rand cannot be held responsible.
VSD Compressors
Do not remove the VSD drive cover or attempt any work on the drive. There are no user serviceable items behind the cover. Only authorized Ingersoll
Rand technicians are permitted to perform this work.
The VSD motor rotor contains a powerful magnetic field. Do not handle the rotor if you have a cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted
electronic medical device.
When a VSD compressor is switched off and the motor is stopped, the internal capacitors store a potentially lethal high voltage. After switching off the
machine at its local isolator, wait at least 1 minutes for the capacitors to fully discharge before opening the power drive module doors.
VSD compressors can operate in a pressurized shutdown mode. If the compressor stops automatically, the airend, separator tank and oil system can
contain high pressure air. Press the emergency stop button to relieve the air. Slowly unscrew the vented coolant fill plug to vent any residual pressure. Vent
the system downstream of the separator tank.
After Performing Maintenance
Properly re-install protective guards, shutdown devices and overpressure protection equipment.
Replace all exterior panels and close all doors.
Contain and discard hazardous materials appropriately.
Do not leave tools, rags, or loose parts inside or on the compressor.
Safety Information -When Handling Materials
WARNING
Ensure all activities involving handling of waste products and other materials comply with all applicable codes, laws, regulations, standards, and
specifications (local, state, country, federal, etc.).
The following substances may be used in the manufacture of the compressor and may be hazardous to your health if used incorrectly:
Preservative grease
Rust preventative
Compressor coolant
Refrigerant
In case of spillage, soak up the spill with a suitable absorbent material and then sweep into a plastic bag for disposal. Dispose of waste according to all
applicable codes, laws, regulations, standards, and specifications (local, state, country, federal, etc.).
Do not discharge condensate into fresh/surface water drains. Condensate contains coolant and/or other substances which must be disposed of according
to all applicable codes, laws, regulations, standards, and specifications (local, state, country, federal, etc.). All compressed air systems generate condensate
which accumulates in any drain point such as tanks, filters, drip legs, aftercoolers, and dryers.
Ensure that all waste is handled and disposed of according to all applicable codes, laws, regulations, standards, and specifications (local, state, country,
federal, etc.).
When permanently decommissioning or dismantling the compressor, ensure that all hazard risks are either eliminated or notified to the recipient of the
compressor.
Do not destroy batteries or components containing asbestos without containing the materials safely.
Do not dispose of any pressure vessel that is not clearly marked with its relevant data plate information or rendered unusable by drilling, cutting etc.
Do not allow coolant to be released into land surfaces or drains.
Do not dispose of a complete compressor without including instructions for its use.
Have a refrigerant specialist perform service on the refrigerant circuit of an integrated dryer. When repairing the refrigerant circuit, collect all the
refrigerant in a container and dispose of it according to all applicable codes, laws, regulations, standards, and specifications (local, state, country, federal,
etc.). If you discover a leak in the refrigerant circuit, contact Ingersoll Rand for help. Ventilate the room thoroughly before continuing to work.
