SECTION TWO

Draining

Laws/Regulations vary from state to state, so please be aware of
any regulations that apply to you. In most situations, draining the
water from the engine and drive train will be sufﬁcient to meet the
requirements of AIS prevention of the engine/drive train.

Draining instructions for your engine/drive train can be found in
“Storage and Winter Lay-Up” on page 8-1 in this manual.

Please refer to the draining documentation from your boat
manufacturer for draining procedures of components such
as ballast tanks in your boat.

Decontamination

In some areas/situations, decontamination of the raw water portion
of the engine/drive train may be necessary. If decontamination
is required, follow the regulations in force for the area you are in.
The following procedures will help you through the process. Drain
the engine as described in “Storage and Winter Lay-Up” on page
8-1 of this manual. Reinstall the drain plugs in their designated
locations.

your boat manufacturer for decontamination procedures of
components such as ballast tanks in your boat.

Flush the engine/drive train using the Indmar Strainer Pro
or other permanently mounted ﬂushing device. See “Sea
Strainer/Flushing Device” on page 7-11 in this manual for
information regarding the Indmar Strainer Pro.

Read the entire procedure before starting.

An added feature of the Indmar Strainer Pro is the built-in ﬂushing
connection to ﬂush your engine with fresh water:

1. If your boat is equipped with a shut-off valve (sea cock), make

sure it is in the ON or OPEN position.

2. Remove the ﬂushing protection plug from the Indmar Strainer
