Removing an expansion-card bracket
The following illustration shows how to remove an expansion-card bracket from the
system board of the blade server.
To remove an expansion-card bracket, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page “Safety” on page v and
“Installation guidelines” on page 17.
2. Shut down the operating system, turn off the blade server, and remove the
blade server from the BladeCenter unit. See “Removing the blade server from
the BladeCenter unit” on page 19 for instructions.
3. Carefully lay the blade server on a flat, static-protective surface.
4. Open the blade server cover (see “Opening the blade server cover” on page
20 for instructions).
5. If you are removing an expansion-card tray from the blade server and a MPE
unit or expansion unit is attached to the blade server, remove the device (see
“Removing an expansion unit” on page 21).
6. If a standard-form-factor expansion card is installed, remove it (see “Removing
a standard-form-factor expansion card” on page 35).
7. Locate the expansion-card tray in front of SAS connector 1 (see “Blade server
connectors” on page 14).
8. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that attach the expansion-card
tray to the system board. Keep the screws and the card tray in a safe place.
9. If you are installing another expansion-card tray, install the card tray (see
“Installing an expansion-card bracket” on page 33).
10. If you are installing a SAS drive, install the SAS drive tray and SAS drive (see
“Installing a SAS drive tray” on page 23 and “Installing a SAS drive” on page
25).
11. If you have other devices to install or remove, do so now; otherwise, go to
“Completing the installation” on page 46.
