seconds. Plug the Serial Interface back into the wall outlet and try
running the Home Director program again.
Be aware that voltage distribution in homes is split from the 220 volt
power input line. There are two separate 110 volt power lines used in
the house. When a signal is sent to a device module, the signal could
travel from one 110 volt line, out to the power transformer, then back to
the house on the other 110 volt line. If this distance is too long, you
might experience intermittent problems. Try plugging the device module
in another outlet socket.
If you suspect a software problem, exit all other software programs and
try running the Home Director program again. Conflicts may exist
between Home Director and another program. Start the other programs
one at a time to determine which program is causing the conflict.
If you need to reinstall the Home Director software, first backup all the
.HOM files and use the uninstall program in the Home Director directory.
Home Director–Voice Type Connection
Some versions of Home Director offer voice navigation and control, called
Voice Type Connection.
The first time Home Director is run, the Voice Type Connection is not active.
To enable speech:
Click on the Home Director icon (located in the top left corner of the
Home Director title bar).
Select the 'Talk To Me' menu item to start Voice Type Connection and
bring up the SpeechBar.
When 'Talk To Me' is selected the first time, a window will appear suggesting
to check the microphone to be sure it is set-up correctly. Click on OK to go
to the microphone set-up program.
Note: For optimum performance when using Home Director's Voice Type
Connection, the microphone will need to be connected to the computer and
settings adjusted.
To set-up the microphone:
Click the Windows 95 Start button
Select Programs, then IBM Voice Type, then Microphone Set-up.
Follow the instructions in the Microphone Set-up Wizard window.
After running the microphone set-up, you will be returned to the Home
Director main screen. Click on 'Talk To Me' again to enable Home Director
Speech.
