Cabling a fiber SFP or XFP transceiver
To cable a fiber optic SFP or XFP transceiver, do the following:
1.
Remove the protective covering from the SFP or XFP transceiver connector and
store the covering for future use.
2.
Before cabling a fiber optic transceiver, IBM strongly recommends cleaning the
cable connectors and the port connectors. See “Cleaning the fiber optic
connectors.”
3.
Gently insert the cable connector(s) (a tab on each connector should face
upward) into the port connector(s) until the tabs lock into place.
4.
Observe the link and active LEDs to determine if the network connections are
functioning properly.
CAUTION:
The intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly is suitable for
connection to intra-building or unexposed wiring or cabling only. The
intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly MUST NOT be
metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the OSP or its wiring.
These interfaces are designed for use as intra-building interfaces only (Type
2 or Type 4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and require
isolation from the exposed OSP cabling. The addition of Primary Protectors
is not sufficient protection in order to connect these interfaces metallically to
OSP wiring.
Cleaning the fiber optic connectors
To avoid problems with the connection between the fiber optic SFP or XFP
transceiver and the fiber cable connectors, IBM recommends that you clean both
connectors each time you disconnect and reconnect them. In particular, dust can
accumulate in the connectors and cause problems such as reducing the optic
launch power.
When not using an SFP or XFP connector, make sure to keep the protective
covering on.
Removing the battery
Perform the following steps to remove the battery:
1.
Unscrew fasteners and remove any installed modules.
2.
Remove any installed power supplies.
3.
Unscrew fasteners and remove the chassis sheet metal cover.
4.
For the following models, find the following location and remove the
timekeeper cover by grabbing the narrow end:
a.
B24C (C) location U100
b.
B24C (F) location U93
c.
B48C (C) location U34
d.
B48C (F) location U46
e.
B50C (C) location U38
f.
B50C (f) location U46
