3.3 Repeater
The repeater is used to expand the communication range by reinforcing and
transmitting the signal sent by the terminals. With repeater, the communication
range expands to 20 kilometers. The conventional repeater is supplied with AC, and
the packable repeater is supplied by battery.
The main functions of a repeater are to retransmit the signal sent by terminals and to
enhance error correcting.
When communicate with terminals, the communication range is small as the TX
power is low and the signal will be weakened by distance and interference. The
repeater can enable the signal to reach a further distance and the audio to perform
well by reinforce the signal and correct the interfered signal. The digital repeater can
support IP network, which can expand the communications range at a large scale.
With such kind of network, multiple repeaters can communicate with each other,
which enables the terminals of each repeater can communicate with each other.
Such network mode can be used in local communications of a scale.
As the repeater first receives then retransmits signal, the TX and RX frequency
should be different to avoid self-interference, so are the frequencies of terminal.
DMR digital repeater can work in analog mode.
Hytera digital repeater can be configured via CPS; what’s more, to keep
maintenance, it can be remotely configured via the RDAC. With this feature, the
repeater used in remote areas, like forests or mountains can be easily monitored
and configured, which enhances the work effectiveness.
At present, the available repeater is the RD98X series. It is applied in following
frequency ranges:
