7. Tilt the starter slightly forward to make sure that the

starter is installed correctly on the cylinder cover and

on the muffler.

7.3.5 To replace the starter pawl assembly

1. Remove the starter. Refer to

To disassemble the

starter on page 12.

2. Remove the spark plug cap and the spark plug.
3. Put a piston stop in the spark plug hole to lock the

axle.

4. Loosen the nut. Remove the starter pawl assembly.

5. Examine the starter pawl assembly.

a) Clean the starter pawl assembly if it is dirty.
b) Replace the starter pawl assembly if it is

damaged.

6. Install the starter pawl assembly in the opposite

sequence.

7.4 Muffler

7.4.1 To remove and install the muffler

1. Remove the 3 screws and the muffler cover.

2. Remove the 2 screws, the muffler and the heat

shield.

3. Install the muffler in the opposite sequence.

7.4.2 To clean and examine the muffler

WARNING: Risk of burn injury or fire. Mufflers

with catalytic converters become very hot during

operation.

WARNING: Risk of fire. The exhaust gases are

hot and can contain sparks.

1. Clean all parts.
2. Examine the muffler for wear and damage. Replace

the muffler if it is damaged.

3. Examine the remaining parts. Replace worn or

damaged parts with new ones.
