8. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.
8.1
GENERAL
8.1.1
Before commencing any bin cleaning operations it is vital to formulate a
plan of work. Such activities may have to take place where the general
public could normally be present.
Persons or property potentially affected by the cleaning operation should be
notified prior to work commencing and measures taken to keep them clear
of hazard areas, including where drift of any aerosol may occur, for example
using signage, barriers, and supervision/ monitoring.
High pressure jets are dangerous if subjected to misuse.
Care should
be taken to ensure that other persons and animals are well away from the
working area.
The jet must not be
directed at people, animals, the
machine itself, non-waterproof, fragile or electrical equipment.
User’s attention is drawn to H.S.E Guidance note no. P.M.29 as relevant
which deals with the use of electrically powered high pressure cleaners and
steam cleaners.
8.1.2
It is essential that any person who is required to operate or use high
pressure water jetting equipment is trained and totally competent to use that
equipment. By the nature of the equipment and the purposes for which it is
used, it is essential that only physically capable people use the equipment.
8.1.3
Chemicals may be used in conjunction with this equipment. Only chemicals
supplied or recommended by the manufacturer should be used, as other
products may affect the safe use of the equipment. Consideration should
also be given to environmental and COSHH regulations.
8.1.4
Only operate the cleaning unit on firm, level ground. Ensure the handbrake
is applied when uncoupled from the tow vehicle and that the rear support
legs are lowered/deployed before operation commences & any bin is lifted.
8.1.5
NOTE THAT THE TOWING VEHICLE MUST BE FITTED WITH A FULLY
WIRED STANDARD 13 PIN SOCKET AS THE TBCU RELIES ON THE
VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY FOR ITS CONTINUED OPERATION.
While the TBCU will operate independently for a period, to keep its battery
adequately charged requires its connection to a vehicle with its engine
running for part of the day. If travelling from job to job, this may provide
sufficient charge. If however the work is in a single or few locations with little
travel time, the TBCU may need to remain connected to the vehicle with its
engine running as the work progresses to maintain battery charge.
If the unit is engaged in longer periods of static operation, a mains charging
facility with a 12 volt output of sufficient capacity may be connected to the
TBCU battery as an alternative to connecting to a running vehicle.
