Access to hydraulic powered items/moving parts is principally prevented by physical
enclosure
•
Access to these parts should only be carried out by suitably trained, competent and
authorised persons following isolation and depressurisation of the
compressor/compressed air system, ensuring that all such hazardous parts have
returned to a safe state/condition.
5.2
INSPECTION & TESTING - BEFORE USE:
5.2.1 Routine Maintenance
:
The equipment must be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
This should include the regular checks as identified on the Maintenance Check List
(section 9.5 of this manual).
All repairs to this equipment must be carried out by qualified personnel. No modifications
or changes to the specification of this machine should be made without consultation and
approval of the manufacturer.
Components as supplied by others e.g. engine and pumps are covered by the relevant
manufacturer’s instructions, which are included for the operator’s use/reference.
5.2.2 Hose Assemblies:
Hose assemblies are of paramount importance with respect to water jetting equipment.
Before using any hose assembly, it is essential to check the following points
.
No hose should be used where there is any evidence of external damage. Particular
attention should be paid to exposed or broken wires which are not only likely to be a
source of rupture but may also cause severe cuts to the operator.
Of particular relevance are the end fittings of hoses, which can be subjected to stress
caused by pulling at sharp angles or stretching. Hoses must be inspected regularly.
Where quick release couplings are employed they should be inspected regularly for wear,
damage and for condition of any sealing rings.
Attachments should always be in good working order, jets should be kept clean and
orifices inspected to ensure that they are not obstructed.
Jetting guns and lances should be checked at least daily and the trigger mechanism
checked for correct operation. Guns should be checked to ensure that no leak-past
occurs when the gun is
in the ‘off’ position.
The high pressure spray gun provided has a safety lock which enables the trigger to be
locked off to prevent inadvertent use.
