5.2 Maintenance - TPK with and without Scandpell
5.2.1 Cleaning the heat exchanger
The boiler is fitted as standard with a manual mechanical system for cleaning the heat exchanger. The
handle on the front of the boiler is used to move the turbulators in the heat exchanger up and down, and in
this way removing ashes and soot. The loosened material falls down into the combustion chamber.
5.2.2 Removing ashes from the boiler
Ashes from the burner and from cleaning out the heat exchanger fall into the bottom of the combustion
chamber. They are then removed from here manually – using the supplied shovel for example.
The intervals between cleaning out the bottom of the combustion chamber are dependent on the rate at
which wood pellets are burned. As there is space for quite a lot of ash in the boiler, it is rarely necessary to
clean them out more than once a month.
5.2.3 Scandpell
The frequency of necessary cleaning will vary depending on the quality of the wood pellets, and the type of
burner and settings used.
However, an interval of less than 14 days is recommended.
Cleaning the burner cartridge and inside the burner head is usually sufficient. This is done by lifting out the
burner cartridge and removing ash from this and from the burner housing (See the illustrations below).
It is also important to keep the light sensor clean.
Stop the burner and lift off the outside shield of the burner. Remove the light sensor; if any dust etc.,
remove it; clean the light sensor.
Check the function: Enter ”User’s Menu”, select ”Light sensor” and the point ”Current light strength”.
Cover the light sensor and read the value from the display; the read value should be between 5 to 8 points
under the value in the menu point ”minimum light strength” – adjust if necessary.
Check also the light value at full daylight of the sensor (daily light or lamp); should be over 200.
