IDE hard drive performance
When installing an IDE hard drive on a Linux-based workstation, the performance is set to 16-bit
transfers with Direct Memory Access (DMA) turned off by default. This can be confirmed by
running the following command:
hdparm -c -d /dev/hda
The command returns the following:
/dev/hda:
I/O support = 0 (default 16-bit)
using_dma = 0 (off)
To optimize IDE hard drive performance, manually set the transfer rate to 32-bit and turn DMA
on by runnning the following command:
hdparm -c 1 -d 1 /dev/hda
The command returns the following:
/dev/hda:
setting 32-bit I/O support flag to 1
setting using dma to 1 (on)
I/O support = 1 (32-bit)
using_dma = 1 (on)
4.3.24 system board
To remove the system board:
1. Disconnect all cabling from the system board.
NOTE:
Make note of the cable connections before disconnecting them from the system board.
2. Remove all expansion boards and graphics cards.
3. Press the release tab

4. Slide the board

toward the front of the chassis and then lift it out of the unit.
To replace the system board, slide the board back in and lay it down until the release tab snaps it
back into place. Re-install all cards and reconnect all cables.
