approximately eight inches of room outside of the internal mounting rails for routing the 288-port
InfiniBand interconnect cables. The 800 mm-wide cabinet mounts flush with the standard 42U
racks, so there is no need to offset this particular model.
2.4 HP Rack 10000 G2 Series
The HP Rack 10000 G2 Series are designed for greater ease-of-use maintenance. The HP Rack
10000 G2 Series design is based on the original HP 10000 Series Racks (see
Section 2.3
) with
improvements for better airflow and cable management. The HP Rack 10000 G2 Series have
improved front and rear doors for maximum airflow, cable management, and better handles.
The HP Rack 10000 G2 Series side panels have been modified to a three-panel, tool-free design
for easier removal, handling, and access. The HP Rack 10000 G2 Series is available in 22U, 36U,
42U, 42U 800 mm-wide, and 47U cabinets.
Figure 2-5
shows an HP Rack 10000 G2 Series 42U
cabinet.
The HP Rack 10000 G2 Series 42U cabinet has the same dimensions and footprint as its
predecessor, the HP 10000 Series Rack.

2.5 HP Modular Cooling System
The HP Modular Cooling System (MCS) is designed for high-density server and server blade
deployments, and is supported as an exception in HP Cluster Platform solutions. It recirculates
and cools the hot server exhaust air through heat exchangers residing in the MCS unit. The air
is then expelled in front of the enclosed rack at a much lower temperature, providing sufficient
cool air for a load of 35KW of servers or blades.
The MCS unit contains three fans and three heat exchangers deployed along the full height of
the rack to ensure that all the equipment installed receives sufficient cooled air. All fans and heat
exchangers are swappable while the unit is online, providing great servicing flexibility. Redundant
power is ensured through a failover power switch that can be connected to two power sources.
The environmental monitor controls the air temperature to the servers and adjusts automatically
to meet the pre-established air temperature goal. The environmental monitor interacts with HP
SIM (Systems Insight Manager) via SNMP traps.
The HP Modular Cooling System G2 Rack contains six fans and a heat exchanger deployed along
the full height of the rack to ensure that all of the equipment installed receives sufficient chilled
air. All fans are swappable while the unit is online, providing great servicing flexibility. Redundant
power is ensured through the failover switch that can be connected to two power sources. The
