Normalization
Snapclone normalization (unsharing)
Snapclone normalization is a local replication background process in which a storage system copies the
data from the initial snapshot to an independent virtual disk. Snapclone normalization is also called
unsharing.
Some actions should not be performed during snapclone normalization. When creating jobs, use
wait commands to ensure that normalization is completed. See
WaitStorageVolumeNormalization
,
WaitStorageVolumesNormalization
, and
WaitVolumeGroupNormalization
.
Remote copy normalization
Remote copy normalization is a remote replication background process in which two storage systems
ensure that the data on the source and destination virtual disks in a DR group are identical.
Some actions should not be performed during remote copy normalization. When creating jobs, use wait
commands to ensure that normalization is completed. See
WaitDrGroupNormalization
.
Low-level refresh of virtual disks
Update replication manager database entries by manually performing a discovery and refresh of
individual virtual disks.
The action does the following:
•
Performs a discovery refresh at the storage system level to gather the properties of the speci
fi
ed
virtual disks.
•
Updates the replication manager database with the new properties.
Low-level refresh by specifying a DR group
When applied to a DR group, the properties of the log disk and the DR group state are updated.
To update the properties the DR group pair, apply to the source and destination DR groups.
LUN
In each storage system, logical unit numbers (LUNs) are assigned to its virtual disks. When a virtual disk
is presented to hosts, the storage system and the hosts perform I/O by referencing the LUN.
At a low level, a host OS typically reports each storage device that it detects in the format of
c# t#
d#
, where:

Automatic LUN assignment
•
When presenting a virtual disk to a host, enter zero (0) to allow the storage controller software to
automatically assign the LUN.
Preferred controller
Preferred controller speci
fi
es which controller manages and presents the virtual disk. The primary purpose
is for load balancing. Although set by a storage administrator, the controller software can override
the setting when required. Values are:
