e) Clogged Filter Alarm (E7)
The unit is equipped with a filter for protecting the condenser from dirt, oils, grease, etc.
The filter promotes clean condenser surfaces and efficient operation and should be
checked twice monthly and cleaned when necessary. The unit is also equipped with a
sensor (the clogged filter thermistor) to determine if this filter is excessively dirty. If the
unit detects that the condenser filter is excessively dirty by sensing a temperature at the
condenser outlet of at least 136.4°F (58°C) for over 2 minutes, "E7" will be displayed.
Reset Options
After cleaning the filter, the alarm will automatically reset once the temperature at the
condenser outlet drops below 136.4°F (58°C).
Possible Causes
• The condenser air filter is dirty.
• The condenser fan motor is locked or otherwise not functioning.
IMPORTANT
If this alarm occurs frequently, the compressor discharge temperature is
consistently too high.
Note:
• If the unit is turned off and then back on while the alarm code is displayed, the
alarm may be reset even if the filter is not yet clean. However, the alarm will recur
once the compressor discharge temperature reaches 136.4°F (58°C).
• If the temperature continues to rise and exceeds the High Temperature Shutoff
Setting (FA on the settings and diagnostics menu; default: 163°F (73°C) for
refrigerators and 158°F (70°C) for freezers), the compressor will shut off for
a minimum of 6 minutes. After 6 minutes have elapsed, the compressor relay
(X1) will re-energize as soon as the temperature falls below 154°F (68°C) for
refrigerators and 149°F (65°C) for freezers.
• Normal temperature at the clogged filter thermistor is roughly 122°F (50°C) when
ambient temperature is 100°F (38°C).
