Opening Discs
With their wedge-shaped arrangement, the
opening discs open the seed trench for the seed
placement.
In order to avoid blockage and uneven wear of
the opening discs, the discs are screwed on so
they are in contact with each other at the front.
Proper shimming will prolong disc blade life. The
discs should only touch about 2-3” in the front.
HINT: Use a credit card or driver’s license to
determine proper disc spacing. The picture
below shows the discs from the front view,
where they are touching at the recommended
spacing of about 2”.
Disc Spacing – 2”
For harder ground conditions, such as no-till
applications, a minimum of 2” is recommended
for disc placement.
For softer ground conditions, where soil is loose
or has been tilled, a maximum of 3” is
recommended for disc placement.
When the discs wear they will no longer be in
contact. In this case the discs must be replaced
or adjusted. To replace or adjust the discs see
the following illustrations and instructions.

Remove the gauge wheels.
NOTE: When removing the bolt, note
the number of washers and shims on
each side of the gauge wheel.

Remove the dust cap.
•
Unscrew the disc blade retaining bolt.
NOTE: When removing the bolt, note
the number of adjusting washers on
each side of the disc blade.

right hand threaded, respective to left-
