Seed Tube
Seed Tube
The sensor located in the seed tube is used for
monitoring the planting process. After the grain
transfer in the metering unit, the grain drops
through the seed tube into the ground. The
sensor detects each grain and reports it to the
computers. These evaluate the time between
grain signals and use this information to
calculate the variation coefficient (drilling
accuracy), skips and double seeds. The seed
tube and sensor must therefore be correctly
installed and fastened.
NOTE: Skips and double seeds are not
evaluated for all seed types.
With its shape, the seed tube is
extremely important for a
uniform placement of seeds.
The seed tube must not be damaged or dirty.
Dust deposits in the sensor window can
adversely affect the signals on the sensor. This
can be the reason for incorrect data (faults) in the
computer.
Damage at the end of the seed tube, plugged
seed tubes, and/or partially blocked seed tube
can cause irregular seed placement. It can build
up slowly over time.
Seed Tube with Blockage
The sensor cannot detect faults in the bottom
section of the seed tube! The sensor can only
trigger an alarm when the pipe is blocked and
filled up to the height of the sensor.
In case of poor working
condition, the seed tubes
should be checked and
cleaned several times per day.
Even under normal working
conditions and for large areas
several inspections per day are
recommended.
