Situation
Possible Cause

Device is not turned on/off (per
model) or in correct mode.
Refer to device instructions.
Cable for device is not properly
connected.
Verify that the cable is attached to the Com
port selected when programming the monitor.
Verify that the cable is firmly connected to the
monitor as well as the device.
No data transferred from device to
monitor.
Monitor does not have a port
programmed for the device.
Assign a com port to the device using the
Option menu.
Communication errors between
device and monitor.
Noise
Cable problems
Place the monitor so that it is not on/near an
electrical device such as a TV or microwave.
Use the correct cable for the device.
Verify that the cable is attached correctly and
to the correct com port.
Exchange the device cable.
Keep getting noise when collecting
ECG reading.
Electrical interference
Movement during reading
Instruct patient to rest arm in lap, never on the
monitor.
Instruct patient to remain still and avoid talking
during the reading.
