BD
Blu-ray Disc: The format is established by BDA. Data is written and read to/from
this disc using blue-violet laser. The recording capacity is at least

BDA
Blu-ray Disc Association: This industrial group is establishing the format speci

ca-
tions for Blu-ray Disc, promulgating and promoting them. (BDA is different from
the DVD Forum and DVD+RW Alliance.)
BDAV
One video recording/playback application format adapted to BD: It corresponds to
the DVD video recording format for DVDs.
BDMV
One video recording/playback application format adapted to BD: It corresponds to
the DVD Video format for DVDs.
BD-FS
Blu-ray Disc File System: To enhance response, data is divided and recorded in the
"real-time data area" and "gathered
fi
le area".
BD-R
Blu-ray Disc Recordable: This BD application format allows one-time recording
(write-once).
BD-RE
Blu-ray Disc Rewritable: This BD application format allows rewriting up to 1000
times.
BD-ROM
One BD application format. A BD-ROM is a read-only disc on which data and high-
quality video/audio are recorded.

CGMS
Copy Generation Management System: This is the copy control technology used
by video devices. Referred to as CGMS-A for analog technology, and CGMS-D for
digital technology.
Component
terminal
Application standard for analog video signal input/output terminals, which transfer
the video signal by dividing it into luminance and color-difference (cr/cb) and sync
signals.
CPRM
Content Protection for Recordable Media: A copyright protection function for record-
ing media (DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM/SD memory card, etc.).
CSP IC
Chip Scale Package IC or Chip Size Package IC: This IC was made compact by
arranging pins under the package.

DCF
Design rule for Camera File system standard: This camera

le system standard.
Dolby AC3
Audio coding format developed by Dolby Laboratories in U.S, also simply referred
as AC3 format: Supports 5-channel full-range sound and one channel for
sub-woofer sound playback.

DPOF
Digital Print Order Format: DPOF allows user to record print information along
with photos on storage media to facilitate printing of photos.
dts (DTS)
Digital Theater System: The audio digital compression recording/playback system
developed by DTS, Inc., which is used for audio tracks of movies and DVD-Video.
DVD
Digital Versatile Disc. A huge amount of digital data for video (movie) and audio
can be recorded on this disc, whose size is the same as CD.
DVD Forum
An industrial group that is establishing, promulgating and promoting the DVD
format speci

cations, and controlling the licenses. (This group differs from the
DVD+RW Alliance and BDA).
