10.7 RS-232

Make sure that the NT 50 device and the remote device via RS-232
have the same potential or insert a galvanic isolation, to avoid compen-
sation current between the used devices.
The RS232 interface (EIA-232) is a point-to-point connection of two com-
munication devices. Only shielded cables have to be used. No termination
resistors are required.
Take care of the pin assignment at the communication partner. This de-
cides, whether you need a so called null modem cable with crossed pin as-
signments.

In the EIA-232 norm a maximum cable ca-
pacitance of 2500 pF is allowed for a RS232
connection.
Cables of such capacitance may have the
following lengths depending on the baud rate

Higher length can be achieved with cables of extraordinarily low capaci-
tance.
