For automatic transmissions
—Place the
vehicle in gear with your foot holding the
brake and allow the engine to idle. Do not
allow the vehicle to roll or move as it will
affect the accuracy of the test.
For manual transmissions
—Place the
vehicle in neutral with the parking brake
applied and allow the engine to idle. Do
not allow the vehicle to roll or move as it
will affect the accuracy of the test.
IMPORTANT!
For accurate test results, run
the vehicle’s engine at idle—do not accelerate
at any time during the test. However, if you
need to simulate a load, slightly raise the idle
while the vehicle is in gear—make sure to
keep the RPM stable and steady.
9. Press

CYLINDER FIRING ORDER
An RPM scale is listed down the left side
of the graph and shows the percentage of
change in relation to the other cylinders.
The cylinder numbers are listed along
the top of the graph. The engine’s RPM is
displayed in the bottom left corner.
The number of misfires recorded for a
particular cylinder is listed under the
cylinder number. The cylinder with the
highest count typically is the problem
cylinder.
For best results, allow the power balance
test to run for 30 seconds, press
REFRESH
and repeat several times while looking for
patterns.
