local, state, national or federal
regulations.
• Before starting to work, disconnect enginge
from power supply. Carefully read operating
instructions for the engine and if necessary
for the other equipment assemblies and
devices (e.g. radio etc.).
ATTENTION
Ensure that the radio code is recorded.
CAUTION
Jacked up vehicles must be secured
adequately.

• In this position, the Camshaft Setting Plate
3488-1 can be inserted into the slot in the
camshaft and prevents the camshaft from
twisting.

• FORD vehicles with 1.8l diesel engines
up to 1996
use Locking Pin 3488-2 to lock
the camshaft. The locking pins are designed
to enter through the timing holes in the
camshaft sprocket into datum holes in the
engine.

Crankshaft Positioning

• Remove the blanking plug and screw in
TDC Location Pin 3488-4 until the limit stop
is reached.
ATTENTION: When screwing in the
TDC Location Pin, the engine must
not be turned!
•
Turn crankshaft with caution
until the
crank web rests against the TDC Locking
Pin 3488-4.
ATTENTION: Location and locking
pins such as 3488-4 must not be
used for locking the crankshaft for
releasing/tightening the crankshaft
pulley fixing bolt.
• Use an appropriate tool for counter holding.
