The three options controlled on this page are:
Timbre Match: This specialized equalization filter matches the spectral balance between the front and
surround channels to increase the realism in sound effects created for motion picture sound tracks.
Hi Frequency Equalization: This equalization circuit that compensates for the way that motion picture
soundtracks are mixed. They often sound “bright” in a home environment due to the difference between home and
theater acoustics. Hi EQ (or a proprietary “Re-Equalization” in the THX mode) compensates for these differences and
minimizes listener fatigue and harshness.
Slow Speed Logic: If you are creating a mode that will be used primarily with older stereo recordings, you may
wish to select conventional “slow” speed surround decoding logic as opposed to the 7.0’s ultra fast design used in
most of the factory preset modes. sound presentation may benefit from a slower logic speed to compensate for the
nature of older stereo recordings.
To change on of the settings, use the “
Ð
“ and “
Ï
“ buttons to move the on screen
Ö
pointer next to the option to be
changed. Use the “Select” button to switch the setting on or off. (Note that for the “Slow Speed Logic” setting, a “-”
indicates that Fosgate fast speed logic is in use. A “+” indicates that standard slow speed logic is in use.
When all of the settings have been changed, if required, press “Exit/OK” to enter them to memory and return to the
Expert Settings menu.
Surround Filters
This section gives a user the ability to adjust the frequency cut off for the back channel speakers. The setting selected
here will determine the limit of the frequencies heard through the back channels.
Four options are available:
Classical: This setting limits the sound at the back channels to approximatley 3.5 KHz.
7 KHZ: This is the standard setting for conventional Dolby ProLogic and Home THX processing.
12 KHZ: This is the Fosgate standard “full bandwidth” setting. It delivers an extra measure of sound quality to
the back channel speakers.
Back Hi Freq Cut: This setting provides a shelved response above 12 KHz.
To select a surround filter, start at the “Surround Mode Edit - Expert Settings” Menu. Press the “
Ð
“ button until the on
screen
Ö
pointer is next to “Surround Filters”. Press “Select” to move to the next menu.
At the “Surround Filters” menu, used the “

Ö
pointer is next to the filter you wish
to use as the back channel cutoff. (Figure #xx) When the pointer is in the desired position, press “Select” to confirm
the setting, and note that the
cursor will move next to your selection. Press “Exit/OK” to enter the setting to memory
and to return to the “Expert Settings” menu.
Back Level Adjust
The sound level for the back channel speakers is normally set through the calibration menus on the System Setup
menu. This produces an equal sound pressure level at all speaker locations. Some listeners, however, may prefer to
have the back channel volume at a higher level to emphasize the level of surround effects. A higher or lower setting for
the back channels may be included in a custom mode by entering a setting on this menu.
To enter a specific back volume level start at the “Expert Settings” menu. Press the “
Ð
“ button until the on screen
Ö
pointer is on the bottom line, next to “Back Level Adjust” (Figure #xx). Press “Select” to move to the next menu.
