GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Thank you for choosing this GYS product which has been designed with great care. To get the best out of your machine,
please read the following instructions carefully, and keep for future reference.
The GYSTARTs are designed to start vehicles with liquid or gel electrolyte lead-acid batteries and also charge liquid or gel
electrolyte lead-acid batteries. They are for use on 12V or 24V batteries with a capacity according to the table below :
GYSTART
1224T
Charge
65>1350 Ah
Start
60>300 Ah
ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
This device must be plugged into an EARTHED power supply with the following characteristics :
GYSTART
1224T
Voltage
400V 3 ph.
Protection
16A
Recommended cable section for use on extension cables: 3 x 2.5 mm² (4 x 2.5 mm² for the 1224T).
USE IN STARTING MODE (START)
Prior precautions
• Choose a sheltered area with suitable ventilation.
• Remove the battery caps (if present) and ensure the liquid level (electrolyte) is correct. Add some distilled water if
necessary. Carefully clean the lugs and terminals of the battery.
• Check that the capacity (Amps per hour) and the voltage (Volts) are compatible with your charger.
Connecting and Disconnecting
• Switch off the product by selecting position “0”. Then plug into the mains supply and turn the charge current poten-
tiometer to the lowest setting.
• Select the correct voltage 12 or 24 V for the battery.
• Connect the clamps: red to + terminal, black to – battery terminal.
• Make sure you get good electrical contact.
• Select the charging mode using the switch :
“Electronic control”: when the charging process is over, a light will illuminate.
“Manual mode”: stop the charging process when your battery starts to boil. Be careful of explosive gas, avoid flames
or sparks.
• Switch on the product by selecting “I”
• After one minute of charge adjust the charging current using the control knob.
• A normal charging current (duration 8 to 10h) is about 1/10 of the battery capacity (Ah). Beyond this value, the char-
ger provides a high current that should only be used for a short-term charge.
• The product can charge the battery in automatic mode (electrical control) or manual which requires supervision by the
user (the electronics of the vehicle are not protected). In automatic mode, the electronics of the vehicle are protected
supervision of the charge is not required. This is t he optimum charge (
: <14,8V
: <29,6V).
Charge of several batteries simultaneously
Several batteries can be charged simultaneously by connecting them in parallel (the + terminals connected to the red
clamp and the – terminals connected to the black clamp). These batteries or grouped batteries must be of the same
voltage (12V or 24V). The charging current must be 10% of the sum of the capacities of the batteries.
Example : 1 x 55Ah b 1 x 100Ah battery need a charging current of : (55+100)/10 = 16.5 A
Charging in series is not recommended.
